One of the things I love is discovering new artists. Generally I find people on Instagram, they start following me and then I start searching out anything they’ve ever produced haha. Such is the case with BMB. And his new album is my top listen for the week.
Those albums that you can just hit play on and let spin are my absolute favorites, in my day job I edit novels for independent authors, so music plays a big part in my day to day. I plug my earbuds in and block the world out, albums you have to skip tracks on always ruins my work flow but this one is one that I have had on repeat.
The style of this album encompasses some of my favorite genres and here are my favorite tracks on the album.
1. Lately – I am such a huge fan of acoustic music, it’s where all the pretense is stripped away and you can really see what an artist has to offer. Hands down BMB’s acoustic stuff is always going to be a top pick. The vocals are spot on, and the song reminds me of Bayside. (Which if you haven’t listened to any of their music I highly suggest doing so.)
2. Pain in My Chest- Tied for my favorite track on the album, and the style of the 2 songs is completely different and that is one of the things I love about BMB’s music. It’s seamless, he can hop from one style and then totally switch it up and each one he tackles is done so damn well you can’t help but wonder what he’s going to come up with next. For us kids with music ADD this is awesome!
3. Dreams – This was the track that surprised me the most, while it’s not completely orthodox, it had this cool Imogen Heap vibe that made it stand out. It’s not the norm and that’s what makes it cool. Artists that don’t color I side the lines will always be among those I buy. Plus the way everything blends on this track is just gorgeous.
4. My Old Life — Ahh, now this one… it’s raw, gritty. It’s real life encapsulated in a song. You feel the growth, the struggle and commitment it took to evolve and change. It takes you on a journey that’s for sure.
Generally I would only do my top 3 favorite tracks off of an album but for this one y’all get 4. You can’t help but enjoy them all.
So big shout out for my Instagram buddy, you knocked it out of the park on this one! Pick this one up where ever you buy those must have tunes. It’s my 5 star listen for the week, and one to where if it was available on vinyl, I would plunk down my money in a heartbeat. You will learn I am notoriously picky about what I buy on vinyl. It’s generally original pressing classic rock, or artists that I know I will listen to their album over and over. Hey, vinyl’s expensive these days! You gotta pick and choose haha.
But you can’t go wrong with this pick.
